Two ways to sell sheds

Shed dealers usually work under one of two setups. The main differences are how much you pay upfront and how much control you have over pricing.

Sell inventory the manufacturer provides

Larger manufacturers often place buildings on your lot upfront, so you do not pay for inventory before it sells. They usually handle delivery, ordering and marketing materials. You can get started quickly with little upfront cost, and the manufacturer supports your business as it grows. The manufacturer usually sets the prices.

Buy inventory from the manufacturer

Smaller manufacturers may ask you to buy their buildings before they go on your lot. You set your own prices, but you also take on the risk upfront and handle your own brochures and marketing.

Each manufacturer card says which setup that manufacturer runs. Confirm it with them before you sign anything - it is the first question on the list below.

How the two dealer models compare on cost, pricing, delivery, marketing and risk
Criterion Manufacturer provides inventory You buy inventory upfront
Upfront cost Low. Buildings are placed on your lot before you sell them. Higher. You pay for buildings before they sell.
Pricing Usually set by the manufacturer Set by you
Delivery and ordering Usually handled by the manufacturer Often handled by you
Brochures and marketing Usually provided by the manufacturer Created by you
Risk Lower Higher, since unsold buildings are yours
Best for Getting started with little money down Dealers who want to set their own prices

Questions to ask a manufacturer before you sign on

Use these to compare dealer programs once we have made the introduction.

  1. Do you provide inventory, or will I buy buildings upfront?
  2. Who sets the prices, and how am I paid on each sale?
  3. Who handles delivery and setup?
  4. What brochures, signage and marketing materials do you provide?
  5. Do you offer rent-to-own for my buyers?
  6. What do you look for in a dealer lot, such as size, location or road visibility?
  7. Can other dealers selling your buildings set up near me?
  8. Can I sell for more than one manufacturer?

Common questions

Does Sheds.Store hire shed dealers?

No. Sheds.Store is a marketplace - we do not own any sheds and we do not employ any dealers. What we do is list the manufacturers working in each state. Tell us which one interests you and we will put you in front of them.

How do I become a shed dealer?

Pick a manufacturer listed in your state and send us your details. We pass them on and follow up with you, so you are not cold-calling anyone. Once you are set up and meeting their requirements, you can list your inventory on Sheds.Store to reach local buyers.

How much does it cost to start?

It depends on the manufacturer. If they provide the inventory, your upfront cost can be low. If you buy inventory upfront, you pay for the buildings before they sell.

Do I need my own lot?

Most dealers need somewhere to display buildings. Many manufacturers want a lot that is visible from a busy road with room for several buildings. Requirements vary, so it is worth asking early.

What if no manufacturer is listed in my state yet?

Try a neighbouring state, since some manufacturers work with dealers across state lines. We add manufacturers as they join, and if you tell us what you are looking for we will know where to look next.

I am a shed manufacturer. How do I get listed?

Use the form on this page and choose the manufacturer option. Tell us about your company and your dealer program and we will come back to you about getting listed.
